The [plexus] table
A plexus preset draws a network: points in 3D, and a line between every two that lie closer than
link_distance. A link fades in as its two points approach and out as they part, so the network
rewires smoothly and never pops. [plexus] decides how the points are arranged:
system = "plexus"
[plexus]layout = "sheet" # "cloud" (the default) or "sheet"points = 400 # 16..=4096; the default is 300seed = 3 # optional; absent, the preset's own [generator] seedAll three keys are read once, at load, and are not bindable. An unknown layout, or a point count
outside 16..=4096, is a load error.
layout | The points | Reads |
|---|---|---|
cloud | Scattered through a cube two units across, drifting on a smooth seeded current. A point fades out as it reaches a face and fades back in on the opposite one. | drift |
sheet | A jittered grid on a flat square, rippled up and down by a seeded swell. A point keeps its place in the grid, so the mesh ripples rather than rewiring. | drift, wave, wave_scale |
The camera orbits the network’s centre. yaw turns it round, pitch raises it, distance
moves it in and out and fov is its field of view; the engine-wide zoom narrows the field of view
and pan_x / pan_y slide the picture. A slow orbit is yaw = "time * 0.05". A sheet reads best
seen across at a grazing angle, which is what the default pitch of 0.25 gives.
Depth of field. focus places the focal plane in the network’s depth, 0 at its nearest point
and 1 at its farthest, so it means the same whatever the camera’s distance. aperture is how
strongly anything off that plane blurs: 0 keeps every line sharp. One line can cross the
focal plane sharp and soften toward both ends, and a blurred line dims as it spreads, so the
light it carries stays the same. In pixels, aperture is the blur of the far background: behind the
focal plane a line approaches it and never passes it. In front of the focal plane the blur grows
past it, and grows faster the closer the camera is. Wide blur costs fill, so the quality tier caps it
at 12 px on Floor and 24 on Rich, and a close camera’s near strands draw at that cap on either tier.
That is the lens’s ceiling and is not reported. An aperture past the cap, where the background
itself draws sharper than asked, draws at the cap and says so. The same pair of parameters
blurs the attractor’s 3D families.
line_width and node_size are pixels at the focal plane: nearer lines are wider and farther
ones thinner. node_size = "0" draws no dots at all. Lines and dots take their colour from their
depth, near to far, through hue_center and hue_spread, so palette_steps bands the network by
distance.
points and the number of links are capped by the quality tier: the Floor tier draws 600
points and 6000 links, the Rich tier 1500 and 20000. A preset past either runs at the cap and says
so. Author against the Floor caps.
The range that reads for each parameter, and the layouts it is inert on, is printed in the plexus
table of Parameter roster.
